I am so excited to see of of your final websites! You will either be put into group A or B. Group A you will be presenting first. Group B you will move around! Group B you're next! 

Be sure to complete your SELF-ASSESSMENT and hand it in to me! 

Day 22, 23, 24 - Feb. 21 + 22 + 25

February 21 - Meet in Library! Please sit where you sat last class! After learning about what to expect for peer critiques this FRIDAY, you have this whole class to be working on your site. Scroll down to remind yourself of the purpose of the project and the pages to include. You can find the Project Brief on Day 20 or by asking the teacher.

February 22 - Peer Critique! Stay in your regular seats! Today everyone will be recieving feedback on their website. This is a first check in mark. Please work with the person next to you and take turns going through your website. Present all the important parts to your partner, and allow your partner to explore your site.

Exchange Peer Assessments when you are done - and read the feedback in order to move forward. You have the remainder of the class to work on your Website - Next BIG design check in on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Countdown to final Gallery Walk is on!!

Day 21 - Feb. 14 Happy Valentine's Day! 

We lost a day due to that DARN Snow! But let's get BACK on track. First let's go over a few things that you NEED to know before you log into your new Weebly Accounts: 
     • How to build - You will have to add Pages to begin. Use the tool bar at the top to create pages. Set the toolbar to the
         Build feature to drag and drop the features you want. 
     • The importance of citing your sources and images - Any image you use should be cited! Unless it it yours, but still then
             we'd love to see where you got it! Check out my Guinea Pig Page to see my example! 
      • When Google Image searching - go to Settings - Advanced Search - change the usage rights to "free to use or share"
      • Also "HOW to add a Youtube" - pretty easy too! Just drag a drop, and copy the URL into the spot.

• Create 3 pages for your website that you will continue to work on

Pages - Pages is a great recording tool to use on the iPads. You can export these documents as word files, pages docs, or PDFS. Practice typing and formatting on the iPad. Write a short paragraph about your favourite subject in school using the iPad provided. Your document must: 
       • Have a title 
       • Be saved to Pages Docs  
​       • Be given a TITLE (changed from "Blank" 

Keynote - Our next assignment will include your skills on keynote. Practice creating a keynote by creating a short 4 slide presentation about your favourite thing! (soccer, guitar, friends, food, a certain animal, hot chocolate, a game, etc!). Your practice keynote must include: 
     • Animation on text
     • Transitions and Builds 
     • Presenter Notes 

Keynote Presentation Assignment - The final iPad task! 

Day 16 - Jan. 29 (PLP Room next 3 classes!) 

• New table groups for next few classes! 
Photography Challenge - playing with lighting! 
     • Lighting - use your finger to scroll up for light or down for darker images 
     • Angles - close ups 
     • Use the editing tool to make your picture look different 
     • Use the mark up tool to "personify" the object like I showed you earlier! 
     • Airdrop your best personified image to me with your name in the bottom right corner! I want to see what you created! 

Day 1 5 - Jan. 25 Computer Lab

START READING! ​• The Atlantic Article - Instagram Bullying 
1) How many people use Instagram? 
2) Do you think that "rude comments and trolling" is as bad as this article makes it seem? 
3) How could Instagram filter these "hate" accounts, or censor Instagram? Do you think there's any point?

Day 13 - Jan. 21 Computer Lab :) 

Task 1: Today we will begin our conversation about copyright. What does copyright mean? What does copyright infringement mean? What are the penalties? Let’ start here. There will be sometimes in the future when you want to use a YouTube video in your final products! But don’t forget all of the copyright laws we just read about! Let’s see what Lumpy and the Lumpettes think! 

Your task is to find a YouTuber that has rights to their products! At the video, click on the name of the contributor. From there - click on the ABOUT tab on the right. You should be able to find the following information to include in an email to emaxwell@seycove.ca 


Your email must include: 
Subject line: YouTube Copyright 

• A description of why you chose this particular YouTube person / channel / video —> Have you seen the video before? Did you search your favourite musician? Did you hear about it from a friend? Explain your interest in the video. 
• Name of YouTube Account 
• Number of subscribers 
• Number of views on the particular video you chose
• Date the video was uploaded
• Date that the YouTuber joined YouTube 
• Date that you accessed the video 
• a LINK to the video so I can see it
• Describe in your own words how you could ever use this video for your own use and why it is important to give credit to the original creators of videos. 

Task 2: A few of you are missing things! If you think you know what you are missing, do it now! Otherwise, listen carefully for your name. Go back on this website to read the task you missed and catch up! 

Task 3: We have one month left together. If we’re going to make an awesome final digital product, we need to learn how to use our tools to their greatest abilities! It’s time to get serious about typing!

• You can do this by pressing the share button and choosing the email feature. You can also AIRDROP me the video.

Day 4 - Dec. 12

• Work period: Please remember that part of you assessment for this project is your work habits. Show me that you have made the right choice with your partners, or you will be politely asked to move to another group

Day 3 - Dec. 10 

• How has technology changed the way we .... - One person from each group recording our thoughts - Google Docs 
• Our FIRST assignment in Digital Literacy considers two things: the change that technology has had on our lives, and how to create, share, and present on a "cloud" system.
• There are several cloud systems - Dropbox, Google, iCloud, etc. As long as you know one, you should be good! Today we will learn about Google Slides. 
After we learn about Google Slides - play around with it! Create a Google slides presentation. Make sure it includes the following things: A consistent layout, images, a YouTube video, transitions, and ONLY 2-3 bullet points per slide 
• Practicing with Google Slides will really help you with our first assignment! 

Day 2 - Dec. 6

• Don't forget to finish your Google Form above! 
• Poster Jigsaw activity. Work with your rows to move around the lab to consider the following questions.
                "How has technology changed the way we ..."
• I want to see EVERYTHING you can think of - apps, websites, people, devices, brands, ideas, YouTube channels, games, etc. 
• Be ready to present at the last station and summarize the poster in front of you for the class 

Selfie-Email Assignment
Goals of Assignment:
Transfer a JPEG (image) from your device to the computer. Insert it in an email, and introduce yourself to me! 

1) Open up your web browser on the PC - log into your email site 
2) Find an image you like of yourself on your device (would like to see your face). If you don't have an image AT ALL - find an image on the web that you feel represents a part of you (maybe you like the beach, skateboarding, horses, biking, etc.)
​3) If you have a GMAIL account - upload this image to your Google Drive. If you have an iPhone and know your iCloud account information (Apple ID), go to icloud.com. You should be able to access all of your files, images, and documents on there! If you don't have either of these things - email it to yourself. If emailing to self - download the image to the desktop of the computer you are on. 
4) Compose an email to emaxwell@seycove.ca. Include the subject heading: Selfie Email 
5) Look for the paper clip symbol in any email system. This is what you will press to ATTACH your image.

  6) Select where the image is saved. Maybe it is in your Google Drive. Maybe you have downloaded it from an email onto the DESKTOP on the computer you are on. 
  7) Within the email write a short bio about YOU! Tell me what I should know about you as a learner, what elementary school did you go to? If you could have ONE super power what would it be? 
  8) After you have given your email a subject area, written a bit about yourself, attached your IMAGE to your email, sign off with your full name "Sincerely, Emily Maxwell". 

Day 1 - Dec. 4

Hello and Welcome to Digital Literacy 8!
On this website is where you will find our plan for the day. Today Mr. Gross is here to welcome you to the course, tell you a bit about what it's going to be about, and tell you about some routines in the computer lab. I'm in SEATTLE on a field study with my PLP 10 class. I'll be back next week though and am so excited to meet all of you.

2) What types of technology do you use? 

3) Signing into the computers - Sign ins are the same as your log in at elementary. If you don't know your log in please line up to see Mr. Gross to write it down (notes on phone, planner, text - don't forget it). Remember once you sign into a computer, don't forget to SIGN OUT when you are done.

​4) I want to know just HOW much you know about digital citizenship. Please introduce your digital literacy level to me a bit by completing this GOOGLE FORM. 

Don't forget to write your full name or else I won't know who you are. Make sure you have a working email for next class!
